News: MEA Victorian Sound Off Round 5

MEA Specialist Retailer, 'Riverside Customs' played host to Round Five of the MEA Victorian Soundoff Series in May and what a fantastic event it was. Braving the cold early morning start competitors began rolling in from 8:00am with some travelling from as far as Adelaide to be part of the event. Riverside's large complex was the perfect location for such an event despite possibly acting as a 'bass trap' (more on this later).

MEASQ saw a record turnout, with 39 entrants including the Show class category. This is one of the biggest turnouts for MEASQ and just goes to show the popularity of sound quality competitions once more and the reach MEA has.

This event also saw the launch of MEA's BASS Battle SPL Competition format, which was very well received and also a complete success. For the remainder of the 2011 season we will be tweaking the format to best suit Australian competitors, with a view to rolling out BASS Battle throughout Australia in 2012. A highlight of the day was Ross Davies' Granny Walker, producing a staggering 170db+ - just to see those numbers on a Termlab screen was awesome!

We trialled broadcasing from the BASS Battle lanes also at this event, which was semi-successful but with some technical upgrades for the next events spectators from around the country will be able to watch the event unfold on their screens.

The only downer on the event was the alleged cracking of two windows on a neighbouring building due to the amount of bass from competitors. We remain sceptical that this was the cause of the cracking however in fairness MEA in conjunction with Phoenix Gold Australia and RM Audio have organised a fundraiser to raise money to cover the replacement of the windows for Riverside Customs. Click here for more information.

Overall, what a massive success enjoyed by all who attended. The next event is scheduled for 16th July @ Phatt Audio Concepts in Braeside, Victoria. Keep an eye on the website for more details.
